Are you familiar with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer show? Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a TV show that aired from 1997-2003. It was about how a high school aged girl named Buffy Summers dealt with her everyday life and her emerging duties as a vampire slayer.
Buffy, it turns out, is the "chosen one"- a high school girl turned "vampire slayer". She protects people from vampires and demons and other evil forces.
The main character is of course Buffy - she moved to Sunnydale California after burning down her last high school. The first three years of the show were her high school years, which were some of my favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer show episodes.
She and her mother, Joyce, first moved to Sunnydale, California at the beginning of the series. No one was supposed to know that she was the slayer, but slowly more and more people found out, much to the dismay of her British watcher Giles, who trains Buffy and helps as best he can.
At the end of every Buffy the Vampire Slayer show season, Buffy has to basically stop an apocalypse from ending the world. Thanks for taking care of that Buffy! Along with all of the evil she has to face, Buffy also has to deal with her school work, friends, high school "angst" and a budding love life as well so as you can tell most Buffy the vampire slayer episodes were pretty fast moving, with a lot going on.
She has 2 best friends: Xander and Willow, who have been best friends since kindergarten. Xander is kind of a goof, but he is a good friend of Buffy's and he helps Buffy in researching and fighting sometimes too. Xander has a crush on Buffy but she only see's him as a friend.
Willow is a geek. Very Smart. She also helps with research and is very good with a computer. She also has a major crush on Xander. Some of the other characters in these Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes are Cordelia who is a stuck up snob who keeps finding herself involved with the "Scooby gang'. Then there is Buffy's mom Joyce who plays the clueless mom up till season 4.
Her first love is Angel, who turns out just happens to be a vampire - but with a soul. Turns out, they can never be together because if he has one moment of true happiness he will turn evil (as is the case in season two) and revert to his old evil ways as his evil side, "Angelus". Why? Because when he started out he was really, really bad and killed a girl from a clan of gypsies who then cursed him with the return of his soul.
After high school graduation, Angel leaves the show, and Buffy learns to move on. She starts dating Riley, who turns out to be working for a military government agency that specializes in taking out demons. He later leaves in season five. Her last relationship was not a true one in the sense of them regularly dating, but she did get with Spike for a time too.
Spike is another vampire on the show - he was once her enemy, and he is now in love with her. Ultra cool with that platinum hair, he is no longer feeding on people because of a chip that was put in his head by that government agency Riley worked for mentioned earlier. By the end of the seventh season, Spike does the ultimate thing and sacrifices himself to save Buffy and the rest of the world.
In the beginning Giles and Buffy, Willow, Xander and Cordelia were all at Sunnydale high - Giles as the librarian and the rest were students. Usually their plot lines were a vampire, demon or other supernatural foe would arrive in Sunnydale. Giles and the kids would do research to see what kind of baddy they were dealing with and Buffy would go out and slay it. There were usually some twist and turns along the way but at the end of every episode Buffy would always win the battle.
Overall, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer show is all about how Buffy saves her friends, family, and the rest of the world from evil on a nearly daily basis. The main bad guys of the series were the Master, Angelus, the Mayor, Adam, Glory, the Trio (Warren, Jonathon, and Andrew), her best friend Willow near the end of the show (as Dark Willow the Super witch), and lastly the First (the first true evil of all time). And during the course of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer show, Buffy wasn’t the only slayer either. She technically drowned in the first season which called up the next slayer, Kendra. Kendra was later killed by the vampire Drusilla in the second season, so Faith was called to be the next slayer. It’s not like an actual call like on a phone, but a more supernatural type of calling - as in a sense of duty to the world.
In the seventh season of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer show, Buffy gathers together and helps train all of the potential future slayers to help her and Faith take down the evil First. Most were killed, but a group of about 25 or so "potentials" go to live with Buffy to train. In the end, Sunnydale is destroyed; it was actually sucked into the Hellmouth that was underneath the high school. But Buffy and most of her friends survive, and now are left with an emptiness in their lives and no idea of what to do next.
Some of my favorite episodes were the Halloween ones. In every one of them something bad happens. Overall demons don’t like the holiday, but that doesn’t stop others from stirring up trouble. The best one, I always thought, was the episode where Buffy and her friends have to take little kids out trick or treating for Halloween. Most of the town gets their costumes from this place called Ethan’s. Ethan is actually an old acquaintance of Giles, Buffy’s watcher (and the librarian at her old High School). Ethan worships Chaos and puts a spell on all the costumes he sold. So Buffy and everyone else really turned into whatever their costume was.
Buffy dressed up as an eighteenth century girl who was a total weakling. Xander is a gun ho soldier. Willow is a ghost hooker and everybody else is a monster of some kind. Everything ends up back to normal by the end of the episode like it usually did, but so much fun. Great episode!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is still to this day one of my favorite shows. I have all the DVDs, and I watch them on a regular basis. It was filled with witty dialogue, great one liners, just about every sort of monster you could think of, loads of apocalyptic events (and saves, whew), a great cast, catchy theme music, and loads of fun. Sometimes happy, sometimes sad, Buffy the Vampire Slayer had it all and I do recommend it highly if you haven't seen it before.
"So many body parts, so few bullets. Let's begin with the kneecaps. No fun dancing without them." -- Darla, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
