If you have lived under a rock for the past few years and haven’t heard about Edward Cullen of Twilight, then please allow me to introduce him to you. Edward may be a vampire, but he is the man that you will have dreams about if you happen to be female.
He was a young man that was dying from the Spanish influenza back in the early 1900's and was turned into a vampire by a doctor named Carlisle Cullen, who he now considers to be his father. Carlisle did this so Edward could continue to live.
And as a vampire Edward has continued to maintain his boyish good looks over the years, like vampires do. But the maturity, restraint, and respect that he has is definitely not the norm of someone that is just 17 years of age.
Edward Cullen of Twilight is the tall, dark, mysterious and handsome man that all women look for in life. He has that gorgeous type of smile that just wants to make your heart melt, but remember being a vampire those pearly whites can end a life in a moment.
Edward appears to be a very protective and unselfish vampire, which is very unusual, but he knows that he is selfish and can’t always let go of the things that he wants. He doesn’t back down from anyone in any situation to protect his family. This is portrayed in the story of him and his one true love, Bella Swan.
He admits his flaws and lives by the values he grew up with almost one hundred years ago. He believes that his soul is damned and refuses to take any chances with the souls of the ones that he loves. He knows that it is frowned on to love a mortal, but fights for his love and in the end he wins.
Edward Cullen of Twilight was one of the first vampires that showed a different lifestyle was possible for vampires. He made a choice not to feed on humans and to live a type of "vegetarian life", shown in his brilliant golden eyes where he fed only on animals. Edward introduced us all to a different kind of vampire and also in how they live.
In the end, Edward's accomplishments of not only successfully living a different lifestyle than most vampire, but also the ability of maintaining restraint around other humans gives people an example of what they might even aspire to in life. Certainly it makes the thought of vampires much less threatening.
And Edward Cullen is also one of the main reasons that so many teens started reading more. Maybe having someone not die and just shimmer in the light was enough of a novelty to make people wonder, for the first time maybe, what it would be like to be a vampire.
" For almost ninety years I’ve walked among my kind, and yours… all the time thinking I was complete in myself, not realizing what I was seeking. And not finding anything, because you weren’t alive yet." -- Edward Cullen, Twilight
